Maritime History of Somerset
I am actively seeking contributions for a volume of essays covering different aspects of the Maritime History of Somerset and I am therefore looking for contributors. Each contributor will get a copy of the book (c. £25), plus the offer of buying copies at a third off, and to purchase any other publication the publishers have/will produce at a third off. Please spread the word to anyone who you might think will be interested in this project. People have already offered topics on Watchet harbour, hydrography, Minehead shipping disputes, the establishment of the Admiralty in Bath and Taunton during WWII, 17th century recruitment and shipping.
Subjects to be considered include shipping, fisheries, trade, ports, harbours, surveying, navigation, environment, privateering, smuggling, shiphandling, shipbuilding, steamships, emigration, seaside resorts, welfare, Royal Navy men and their families. It is not intended to reprint in this volume any material which is currently in print. If you have any questions please let me know. A technical specification for the submission of images is being prepared.
