Another fine day for a meeting. After coffee we assembled to listen to our fellow member Captain Ron Hawkins give an illustrated talk entitled Brass and Bunting . Here is the write-up he kindly provided: BRASS and BUNTING Some aspects of the Falmouth Packet Service The two particular aspects of the Packet Service I intend to talk about are uniforms - the brass of the title, and flags - the bunting. I also intend to show how the commanders of the Packets made use of them. BACKGROUND As everyone may not be familiar with the history of the Packet Service a little background information might be helpful. The Service at Falmouth was established in 1689, when war threatened the integrity of the overland route, to carry government dispatches and ordinary mail to the Iberian Peninsula. I am looking for facts (personnal and professional) about my british ancestor,lieutenant R.N. Robert Snell, captain (january 1831)of "Duke York" Falmouth Packet List. Later on, When his wife died he goes to live together with family in Portugal, Sines,where he died in 1858.
Can you possibly help ?

i have a set of epsulette's four pieces in all. eagle, star and button emblem. the fringe is still in tact. it is is the original brass casing with the soldiers initials in the epaulette's there are alos two other peices in a box in the bottom of the case. the appear to be braided to match. you can not reach me by e-mail only by phone 601-941-0857. i need to know waht they are worth if possible. i have searched the internet and have not found and identcal pair
