I own 'Lola' built in 1985 by a school teacher near Exeter. I know Somerset Plastics laid up the hull, deck etc. however I'm not sure if any MG30's were professionally finished. Certainly trawls around the internet looking at boats for sale, most would appear to be finished to varying standards. My e-mail address is careygary@hotmail.com if you do get around to looking into setting up an MG30 owners association.

I'm going to attach inner stay about 500mm below mast head with halyard exit box just below. The bottom end will clip to a bridle fixed to U bolts bolted through deck above bulkhead at rear of anchor/ gas bottle locker. The inner stay will be stowable to either shroud and will clip to bridle & be tensioned via pulley block system. Need bridle to span mooring bollard and anchor windlass.

Gut feeling is to attach them close to spreaders and also the inner forestays (balance the loads). But no point if this makes staysail very very small

thanks everyone i am told that a baby stay which i would need must only be attatched to the mast within 12 inches of either the spreaders or the mast top itself which should i go for Kieron

I think that a cutter rig would be well worth trying. I intend to rig up a stowable inner forestay mainly for a storm jib but also for a second headsail.

What rig does she have when carrying weather helm? I would try a cutter rig before a bowsprit. (?)

Hi Kieron.
I think it would be good if there was an association of Morgan Giles 30 boat owners as there are quite a lot around the UK. I have emailed you separately.

Hi both.
I have owned a 1978 Morgan Giles 30 for 4 years. It has only been sailed on Ullswater and never been to sea! I am renovating it at the moment and fitting it out with new electronics to make it seaworthy. It will be based in Maryport marina next spring and sailed on the Irish sea & off the west coast of Scotland. I have an original sales brochure & line drawings which I can copy to you if you want. I would be keen to meet up with other MG30's.
Kind regards,
Graham

William, I am in the process of purchasing a Morgan Giles 30, 'Prima Donna', I know little of the history, other than the builder and the basic specification info I have obtained from the current owner. I love the boat though, a good sea boat I think with a long keel, encapsulated ballast with good ratio. You are probably aware the maker was Somerset Plastics. I will try to get some further information and send it to you. I would be pleased to keep in touch. Please let me know if you go ahead, it would be good to know other owners. Regards, Peter.
