The James Eagan Layne Project
Research project on perhaps the most dived wreck in the UK.
SWMHS have teamed up with Promare, a funded research charity to bring forward a project covering many aspects of the wreck, possibly with the intention of using it to commemorate 70 years since the ending of the Second World War in 2015. It is hoped to also involve the Exeter University School of Maritime Studies.
The project is designed to be inclusive to all so offers of help are welcome. The project is looking for volunteers who are interested in researching maritime history, co-ordinating research, writing, diving and survey or simply just interested in helping out and are able to devote some free time.
There is more than enough research work to satisfy all tastes and degrees of commitment. Much of the research is UK based but other parts could involve research in the U.S. and Canada.
For full details and how to become involved see the project's website www.promare.co.uk/liberty70
