MAGGIE WATKINSON
EDITOR SOUTH WEST SOUNDINGS
Maggie's maritime history interests stem from researching her family history; she
discovered many ancestors were originally from the Tamar Valley and
were bargemen and merchant mariners. Her career was in nursing; she also edited
a professional journal for 10 years and was in a senior
lecturer/clinical nurse specialist role for 9 years in Oxford before
moving to the south west.

DAVID CLEMENT
LIFE PRESIDENT AND EDITOR OF MARITIME SW & MONOGRAPHS

CLIVE CHARLTON
DEPUTY EDITOR SOUTH WEST SOUNDINGS
Having taught Geography at the University of Plymouth for 42 years, Clive is a geographer rather than a historian, although since retirement he has become much more tuned in to the past. Clive has been fascinated by ships and shipping since the 1960s, when it was possible to wander around such ports as Shoreham, London’s West India and Surrey Docks and Leith. He does not have any notable research specialism; his maritime interests are very broad, although merchant shipping, ports, and trades past and present are important. Having lived near Plymouth for many years, the South West is obviously also a favourite focus. He says "Shamefully, I am not a sailor… "
