South West Maritime History Society has designed a programme of illustrated talks to complement Exeter’s Heritage Harbour celebrations on 24th September

The talks (which are free) will be held at the Haven Banks Centre, opposite the Basin.  Please click to reserve your free ticket(s), which will reserve your place, for 1 or more of the talks.

1.30-2.15 pm: Follow your Noses: Fish, Tallow, and Beer along the 1920s waterfront

Dr Julia Neville, Project Manager for Devon in the 1920s, presents her research on the businesses around the Exeter Quay and the people who lived and worked there in the 1920s.

 

 

 

2.30-3.15pm: My times sailing on the Nonsuch and the Golden Hinde II

SWMHS Member John Cadd talks about his times sailing on the Golden Hinde and Nonsuch in the late 1960s, including sailing up the Exeter Ship Canal.

 

 

3.30-4.15 pm Exeter’s Way to the Sea.

Jonathan Turner, SWMHS Chair tells the history of the Canal using original articles by SWMHS Members over the years, as well as latest research.

 

 

 

 

The talks are free, and will be held in the Haven Banks centre, with a break in between each talk of 15 mins.
