History of the Port of Lelant
Lelant has claims as a relatively important port dating back to the 14th century though the emergence of Hayle led to decline though until the end of WWI there was a limited trade in coal for local, domestic use. Nevertheless, the principal quay, known as Dynamite Quay and still in use for small craft, saw shipbreaking and, until 1959, the importation of fuses for use in the mining industry.
