History of the Stepper Point Quarry at Padstow
For many years up to WWII Stepper Point quarry exported huge quantities of stone by sea, mainly up the Bristol Channel. Local cargoes were usually consigned to nearby Padstow. During WWII and not long before closure in 1948 Canadian soldiers operated the quarry: much of the stone extracted was used in the extension to St Mawgan airfield. The quarry was inaccessible by road so sea-borne transport was the only option.

Sites of maritime interest at Stepper Point
The quarry site is accessible on foot but very few relics of the quarrying operation remain.
